An Entertaining Cozy Murder

Co-owner Jesse Camden is doing what she should be doing at the Gilded Lily Antiques and Vintage shop when a stranger walks ina really handsome stranger. Did I mention he’s handsome? But just because some people have got the handsome down, doesn’t mean their manners don’t need correcting and Darren Bingham falls in that category. After asking too many questions about Lindsey Hatch, he makes a failed attempt to try to learn the whereabouts of Jesse’s business partners. But it’s Bingham’s appearance in Myrtle Grove that sets off a firestorm and leads to murder.

I’m a first-time reader of LouLou Harrington, and was favorably impressed. Her writing style is sure and there’s enough description to not leave us hanging. The story falls into the genre and cozy mystery lovers will not be disappointed. The plot was intricate which was a pleasant surprise. Sometimes this is an element that gets replaced by simplicity in these types of stories. But this is a full-fledged, grown-up mystery. The clues abound and Jesse Camden makes a very capable ‘sleuther’.

In terms of what I didn’t like, it concerns the action of one of the cast of characters and what they do to Ms. Camden. It was too serious to not be taken seriously, and the blowing it off as “humorous,” rang very untrue. Somebody did that to me, they’d be going to jailregardless of who they knew or who they were related to. It’s also why I’m giving this four stars instead of five.

I definitely can recommend picking up a copy of BLUES, BUTTERFLIES & MURDERS and matching wits with Jesse Camden. She is a very likeable character and one you could get used to having around on your bookshelves so indulge! Can never have too many mysteries.
